title pic Another Reason Why I Love Homeschooling

Posted by Lorren on July 23, 2008

It’s still summer here… while some kids start school around here ridiculously early (I think one district might start at the end of July, but most start early August), most kids are still out. But the interaction between my two kids has made me smile lately.

The other day I was planning on taking the kids to the library, but I discovered that it closed at 5pm and I was hoping to go after dinner… so I scrapped that plan and we all walked/biked/rode in a stroller to the park instead.

On the way to the park, we stopped to take a look at the anthill on the side of the road. They both like to watch the little ants go busily in and out of their home. Then we finished going to the park, I let ds get out of the stroller, and dd ran to the playground equipment to play.

They ended up playing together. Dd went down the slide with ds, they made sand castles together, and were having a good time. I was pretty happy to see how well they were getting along.

Yesterday they were both “playing babies” together. I think they were both pretending to be babies. Well, ds doesn’t really have to pretend, but dd was pretending to be more like him.

I’m glad that they get to play together like this, and they usually seem to like each other. When next month rolls around and all the other kids dd’s age are headed off to school, dd will still be able to play with her brother. When we start classes, she’ll still be able to play with her brother. Maybe we can even involve him in some lessons. If we weren’t homeschooling, we wouldn’t be able to do this.
