What We All Need…

I was reading the Bible this morning, and I discovered what we all need.

If we had it, we could have prevented Enron… “put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you.” (Proverbs 4:24)

All those people flipping houses, trying to make a quick buck, then ending up with nothing… we could have avoided that too. “So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of his owners.” (Proverbs 1:19)

We live in a world of people who do really stupid things. Like suing McDonald’s for millions of dollars when someone spills coffee on them. Or killing someone over a pair of tennis shoes. Or getting into debt to get the latest gadget that we don’t need. I’ve done stupid things, and you’ve probably done stupid things too.

We all need wisdom! And we all need to use it too. We’d be better off if we got it and used it. And where do we get it?

“For the Lord gives wisdom;
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Proverbs 2:6

I don’t know about you, but I don’t hear audible messages from God telling me what to do. But there is one place where we can hear what God is saying to us. We can hear his words by reading the Bible. That’s what we need.
