Nero Fiddled While Rome Burned…

The other day I started reading Currency Wars: How Forged Money is the New Weapon of Mass Destruction. The book seems to be mostly about counterfeiting, although there is some information about the Weimar Republic in it, and that’s the main reason why I decided to check out the book. I figure, if our country’s printing presses are going full speed ahead, it might be helpful to understand what might be coming ahead, right?

We’ve all heard about Nero fiddling while Rome burned. I saw a story on one of those History Channel shows… I think it was Cities of the Underworld, where they visited ancient Rome and saw the palace where Nero would do these acting routines while everything in Rome fell about him.

However, I didn’t know until reading this book that Nero was also involved in currency devaluation. He started removing some of the silver content from the Roman denarius. This caused inflation. Eventually, the “silver” denarius was minted with less than 1% silver (p. 59). The devaluation of Roman currency led to the weakening of Rome’s military.

Sometimes I wonder whether our own country is fiddling while Rome burns. Our country’s leaders have had an apathetic attitude about illegal immigration, and even about border patrol guards being held by invading Mexican military. The “bailout” package was passed by House members who were threatened with martial law if they didn’t pass it.

And then we have our leading presidential candidate, Barack Obama, who has admitted that he will be spending the evening of the election in Chicago with his friends, including Bill Ayers.

Bill Ayers is an interesting guy… not only was he a terrorist, but an FBI agent that infiltrated their organization said that they were planning on taking over the government.

Does the term “sleeper cell” ring a bell? The 911 terrorists spent quite a long time in this country training before they made their move. Terrorists sometimes think with long-range plans. Would it be possible that Bill Ayers saw potential in young Barak Obama, and that is why he took an interest in him? I’m not saying that it is the case, but could it be possible? Ayers did help Obama out with fundraising and the like.

It often seems like this country does not have our best interests at heart, and it doesn’t seem like this election will make things any better.
