Posted by Lorren on October 19, 2008

The last living Titanic survivor is selling off her memorabilia in order to pay for her nursing home fees.
At 2 months old she was the youngest survivor to be rescued, and at 96 years old, is now the last living survivor. Makes the record books twice.
I hope that she does well in the auction. [...]

Posted by Lorren on

Recently, an internet acquaintance of mine received a phone call from Joe the plumber. He said that he was endorsing Barack Obama for president.
Oh really?
Joe Wurzelbacher, the person who is the “Joe the Plumber” that everybody has been talking about, was not for Obama when he initially asked the question about taxes for small [...]

Posted by Lorren on October 18, 2008

I try to keep my blog as a general interest, Christian news and political commentary, with a splash of personal references as it is appropriate to the topic I’m writing about, but I need some help from any prayer warriors out there. I don’t want to get too gossipy about this, but I feel [...]

Posted by Lorren on

Recently, a school district in Dallas laid off 375 teachers in Dallas, Texas. They were actually expecting to lay off even more. The layoffs were due to budget shortfalls.
I always thought that teaching was a fairly stable career. I suppose in tough times, it’s not as stable as you’d think.

I was reading some comments on a web site about Joe the Plumber, and I was concerned… it said something like “if those plumbers don’t make $250,000, they should vote for Obama.”
Since when is voting all about what we can get now? Shouldn’t we be voting for the greater good?
There’s a lot more at [...]

title pic A Revisit to the Forgotten Man

Posted by Lorren on October 17, 2008

Earlier this January, I was reading Amity Shlaes’ book, The Forgotten Man. It’s the story about the Great Depression, and details how government intervention actually made the depression even worse.
Of course, in January, the only people talking about an economic downslide were people concerned about the housing bubble, prophecy nuts who believe that America [...]

Posted by Lorren on

I swiped this list (sorry) from kalexa over at HomeschoolReviews.com. I know that a lot of people are focusing on the economy right now… but there’s really a lot more going on that not as many people are talking about. So in case you’ve been focusing on the stock market, here are some [...]

title pic The Presidential Race, Economics, and Dependency

Posted by Lorren on October 16, 2008

There’s a big difference in the economic policies of the two presidential candidates. Obama wants to help the “middle class”, McCain wants to help the businesses, who in turn can help the middle class. Joe the Plumber, I guess, fits into the category of “upper class”, because he’s one of the people that [...]

title pic What Would Paul Do?

Posted by Lorren on October 15, 2008

My husband brought up an interesting point about all these people that are hailing Obama as the messiah… why hasn’t Obama refuted these claims? Wouldn’t most real Christians tell them that they were not?
In the Bible, almost the exact situation occurred. Paul was on one of his missionary journeys, and some of the [...]

Posted by Lorren on

Do you like what ACORN has done for this country? Would you like to donate to them?
Well, if you don’t like ACORN and other groups like them, you might want to rethink getting a mortgage.
I just found out that a bill passed earlier this year requires anybody who wants to get a mortgage to [...]
