Racism Erupts in Protest of Obama Win

Read this off Excite news, but I’ve seen other articles saying about the same thing.
Barack Obama’s election has evidently resulted in a string of death threats on the president-elect, but has also resulted in threats on black people in this nation as well. According to this article, some people are even creating a betting pool to try to bet on when he would be assassinated.
I mentioned earlier that if Barack Obama does not do well as president, then it would be a bad thing for race relations. My husband is black and my kids are biracial, so this is something that concerns me (and nobody in my family supported Obama, except perhaps my white mom… although I think she might have voted for Mickey Mouse).
Although none of the black people that I communicate with (IRL) on a regular basis voted for Obama, evidently, a lot did, so some of the racist people that have been lying low for the past decade or so have decided to have a tantrum and act up.
I thought that we were beyond this as a society. Me and my dh have been married for almost 10 years, and I have only seen one example of racism (I wasn’t even present at the time). My dh had run out of gas and was walking to the gas station, and some idiot shouted the N word at him. Other than that, I get a few comments from the uninformed “where did your son come from?” “how come your kids aren’t the same color as you?”, but nothing mean spirited. I realize that the south is a slightly different animal, and this is where most of the problems are, but this is disappointing.
The other thing that is upsetting is that not all McCain supporters are racist. I would guess that the vast majority of McCain supporters are not. I’ll say right here… I don’t like Obama as a politician. He’s probably a nice enough guy, but I don’t like his policies. For one, I’m pro-life. In fact, it makes me sick how so many of the Planned Parenthood clinics are located in black neighborhoods, and how the founder of PP was a racist that favored eugenics and would have preferred for the black race to be wiped out. Does that make me a racist? Does it mean that I hate black people that I don’t want to see black babies murdered?
Or perhaps it’s because I’m a rabid supporter of homeschooling and am afraid of what would happen if Obama signs the “UN Rights of the Child” act that has resulted in German homeschoolers being sent to jail and having their children taken away. Or maybe it’s because I’d rather have my family have solid employment than for the government to think of me as a charity case and give me more stuff (because we’re in the target demographics of people that Obama want to “spread the wealth around” with). For which of those things am I a racist? Most of the people I know feel similar to me about this, and they don’t have problems with my husband as well, are they racist? I don’t think so, but it looks bad when other people that support the same political candidate are running around threatening people.
I hope that nothing happens to Obama. That might spark some sort of race riot. That’s the last thing we need.
