Consequences Of Our Actions

God gave Abraham the promise of a son. He would be the father of a great nation, he was told.
Most of us know the story of Isaac and Ishmael. Abram grew old, and in his eighties, he figured that Sarai was too old to have a child, and had a child with Sarai’s maid, Hagar. He didn’t wait for God to fulfill his promise. As a result, thousands of years later, the Israelites are still in conflict with the descendents of Ishmael.
Do we think a lot about the long-term consequences of our actions? I do a little, but probably not as much as I should. Many of us are just too busy trying to survive the day than to worry too much about ten years from now, let alone 1000 years from now (for the record, I think that we’ll be in the millennial kingdom 1000 years from now).
God has a plan for all of us. We should listen to that plan. If we don’t, we might find that the long-term effects are not what we had hoped for.
