The Government Gets More Involved in H1N1

If Universal Health Care is forced upon the American people, I expect that we’ll get more of the same, or greater. The White House has just decided to get involved in H1N1. Perhaps in the future, the government will mandate that if we don’t get the shot, doctors won’t see us?
The government currently intends on using Sesame Street characters as a propaganda tool to convince children (and hence adults through their kids) that they need to get the H1N1 shot. Maybe I should rethink allowing my son to watch Sesame Street for a while. There are plenty of other good children’s shows out there that haven’t (so far) been recruited into the propaganda campaign.
Meanwhile, New York city is offering to vaccinate your children for H1N1 for free.
Two thoughts on this vaccine. H1N1, in its current form, mostly kills people with other conditions. If H1N1 mutates, then the current vaccine will be almost worthless. In 1918, there were some people that ended up getting H1N1 three times! The virus mutated from a fairly mild virus in the spring, to a very deadly virus in the fall, to a milder (but still deadly) virus in the winter. The vaccine that was developed (that the creators of the vaccine don’t plan on getting) won’t provide full immunity if the virus mutates too much (as in, into a deadly form like it did in 1918).
We should pray that H1N1 doesn’t get bad. After all, the government’s policy is to “never waste a good emergency.” An emergency like H1N1 may just be the cause that forces mandatory health care once and for all.
