One of the most baffling announcements on the news recently was that Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. Huh??? What has he done to promote peace? This decision is even more baffling than awarding the prize to Arafat.

While the Nobel prizes for the sciences and literature often make some sense, the Peace Prize is often a mystery. Jimmy Carter? There was that whole thing with the hostages, but at least he had that whole Habitat for Humanity thing. Al Gore? I suppose that it all depends on whether you’ve drunk the Kool-Aid on global warming or not, but at least there is some reasoning behind it. Barack Obama?

What has Barack Obama done, other than win an election and not try to correct people when they refer to him as Messiah? Perhaps the people in Norway really do believe that Obama parts the waters and keeps the earth spinning on its axis. Maybe they awarded him the prize for catering to leaders like Ahmadinejad, or for bowing to foreign nations, or for snubbing Gordon Brown from England. Maybe they’re giving him the prize because of Obama’s ingenious gift choice to the Queen of England… DVDs that don’t work in her country were the perfect choice.
