Every Christmas, it seems like there is a controversy over the words “Merry Christmas”. I’m not sure when it began… when I was a kid, our school always had Christmas concerts, Christmas plays, and Christmas parties. Today, there are often “holiday trees” instead.
Some people like to point out that holiday stands for “holy day” so there’s really not much difference between the two. Well, there are a lot of holidays, but only one Christmas.
I’m not sure that it’s something to get worked up about. If someone wishes me “happy holidays”, I suppose a “Merry Christmas” back is in order. However, I suppose that it is sad that the Christmas season, where we think about our savior and being kind to our neighbors, has been slowly replaced with a season where it’s all about shopping and getting stuff.
Well, Merry Christmas to you. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, then have a good December.
