title pic HYC Update

Posted by Lorren on September 9, 2008

Sigh… i gained 1.2 pounds in the last week.
I’ve been getting lazy with writing down everything that I eat. I think that’s why things are getting more difficult and I haven’t been losing weight consistently. I need to write down what I eat!
When I begin to lose weight, it seems so easy. [...]

Not a great week this week. I gained 4.2 pounds! It must be water or something, because I know I did not consume an extra 14,700 calories over the last week (4.2 x 3500). So hopefully it will disappear in the next week.
Had three trips to the restaurant over the past week. [...]

Posted by Lorren on August 24, 2008

I just finished watching the documentary Sweet Misery. It is a documentary about aspertame, the supposedly “innocuous” sweetener found in popular diet foods like Diet Coke and Crystal Light.
I think I’ve written about it before, but I have been a victim myself of aspertame poisoning in the past. I started drinking Diet Coke [...]

title pic The Food Shortage Hits The Mainstream Press

Posted by Lorren on April 22, 2008

I’ve written a couple of times about how several countries have stopped exports of food and that there have been food riots in several countries because of the increase in price, due to the lack of supply. Some of my friends who like to be prepared have been purchasing large quantities of food to [...]

If you’ve been reading my blog in the last several months, you might have noticed me posting several times about the economy. My last post was about a possible food shortage. Posted by Lorren on April 2, 2008

When I went grocery shopping Monday afternoon, I picked up 8 bags of pasta. Tomorrow when I go shopping after taking the kidlets to the library, I plan on getting a 20 pound bag of rice.
No, we’re not gluttons (well, not my kids or my husband at least, and not me to that extreme), [...]

title pic Should It Be A Secret When Cows are Hormone-Free?

Posted by Lorren on February 7, 2008

I saw this article on MSN.com this morning regarding hormone-free cows:Ben & Jerry’s in food-safety fight
Evidently, Montesanto doesn’t want you to know whether the cows that make the milk you drink (or in this case, eat in ice cream) are pumped up with recombinant bovine growth hormone, or rBGH. They say that rBGH is [...]

title pic Cardboard Bun Story A Hoax

Posted by Lorren on July 20, 2007

Because I wrote about this story earlier this week, I feel that it is the responsible thing to print a retraction to the Chinese cardboard bun story. It has been shown to be a hoax.
I still don’t trust a lot of the food coming out of that country, but at least there is nothing [...]

title pic Is John Stossel Right About Price Gouging? Zimbabwe and Food

Posted by Lorren on July 15, 2007

Right now, Zimbabwe is facing a crisis. The people are starving. The president, in his infinite wisdom, has decided to ban the import of groceries for resale, despite starvation in the country.
I guess he’s afraid of price gouging. There seems to be an inflationary crisis going on there. He recently forced [...]

*** THIS STORY WAS FOUND TO BE A HOAX. ***
Not trying to harp on China or anything, but eeew. Fox News has a report about a man who served steamed buns in a neighborhood in China. The main ingredient: chopped cardboard softened in an industrial chemical. It was then mixed with [...]
