It’s easy to point fingers at other people or the ancient Israelites for turning to government for help before they turn to God, but what about us? Do we pray that God will solve a problem before we write Congress or turn to the government to help us?

Joseph didn’t know that he was about to lose his freedom when he woke up on the day that he was sold into slavery. The Egyptians didn’t know that they would be losing their freedoms when the famine began. Let’s not lose our freedoms when the hard times come in the future.

There are some people today that are worse off than the slaves from the 1800s. Slaves had skills. Those that are dependent on government programs that don’t know how to work will be worse off than them when the government can’t print more money for them.

The “Welfare Cliff” makes it hard for people to accept raises at certain levels of their income. One way to fix this is to taper off benefits as soon as someone starts earning money.
