The Glenn Beck program will eventually not air daily on Fox News towards the end of the year.

I was going to write about “Freedom” for F in the A to Z Blog Challenge, but this was pretty big news that popped up: the Glenn Beck show is going to end. Not the radio program, but his daily television show.

I suppose that will free up an hour of my day; I’ve been watching the show on DVR daily since it began. Although I suppose that I’ll spend at least part of that time researching the news on my own, or going to an alternative web site like Freedom Connect to get my news.

He isn’t leaving Fox News; just transitioning away from a daily program. No word on whether it is because of his health, because he’s going to be working on another project, or something else. His show will be missed by many.

The Olympics start Friday evening, and Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains made its debut Thursday. I'm going to be busy!

-->

The next 16 days are going to be extremely busy for me. Not only will I be busy watching and commenting on the Olympics, but Survivor is also back, with Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains. If you missed it, Thursday was the season premiere. I wrote a recap of Episode 1 for Associated Content, if you’re interested.

So we’re taking spring break a little early (kind of). We’re doing Olympics week in school, with Olympic activities, including Olympic geography, Olympic math, and Olympic reading. That should make things a little less busy.

CBS included a pro-life commercial in the Superbowl, but rejected a male-dating ad.

-->

Now, the only sports I really pay much attention to are the Olympics… but sometimes it’s a little hard to ignore that there’s a Superbowl that people watch too. Especially as a writer, sometimes you can capitalize on things like that. Last year I wrote an article about Superbowl party foods that were easy to make. This year, my pastor has been singing a line of “When the Saints Go Marching In” in church; I’m not sure whether he is a New Orleans fan or not, but he likes to tease people about the Cardinals losing (I live in Arizona).

The only thing that I really am interested in regarding the Superbowl is the commercials. For the past couple of years, I have been Tivo’ing the game, and then I’ve been fast-forwarding through all the boring football to get to the commercials. When I lived in Italy in the Navy, we used to get a half day the Monday after the Superbowl, because the guys that wanted to watch it would have to watch it in the middle of the night. Sometimes we had the option of coming in at normal time and leaving early instead, if we didn’t watch the Superbowl (military television overseas doesn’t have the commercials, so the Superbowl was useless to me).

Sometimes the commercials haven’t been the… cleanest… I guess you could say. I was pretty happy when I heard that Focus on the Family was going to be putting on a pro-life ad in the Superbowl. But I was shocked when I heard that CBS’s “standards board” had rejected a commercial for “male dating”.

So good for them. I guess I’ll keep supporting the company by watching Survivor every Thursday, starting on the 11th (that and the Olympics on NBC… got a lot of TV coming up).

I meant to get more info out about this earlier, but work has had me swamped. Survivor 20 will be Heroes vs. Villains. The cast list has been pieced together by clue-gatherers that are better than I, but I was able to sort them out into probable heroes and probable villains.

If you would like to see the cast list for the 20th Survivor Season, Heroes vs. Villains, I have published it up on Associated Content. Enjoy!

The MTV video awards were full of blasphemy and shock. The channel isn't fit for Christians.

Kathryn Darden wrote an excellent article on MTV’s Video Music Awards. I don’t think that I’ve watched MTV since college, so she did a great job of summing it up.

Evidently, Kanye West was rude and disrespectful when Taylor Swift received her award, Jack Black prayed to Satan, and much of the whole spectacle was meant to shock.

MTV has never been the home of the Puritans. However, it seems as if the television channel now does everything that it can do to spit in the face of Christianity and hate everything that is left in the world that is good.

It’s so important to know what your child is watching these days. And what they’re listening to. The mainstream media just isn’t safe any more.

Right now my kids are watching Caillou. LOL. Even my seven-year-old. My toddler just discovered the show, and it’s now his favorite.

Evidently, Ellen Degeneres has replaced Paula Abdul on American Idol. Are you kidding me? For one, what experience does she have in the music industry? For another, what draw does she bring? She had a talk show for a while, but as far as I know, it wasn’t a smash hit or anything. She was okay as Dory on Finding Nemo. I’m wondering what the producers of the show were thinking when they assigned her the fourth spot. Why couldn’t they have left it at three? Idol was fine for several years with three judges. Apparently she has a contract with the show for five years.

I was living in Italy during seasons 1 and 2 of American Idol, but I had watched the show for every season since. I even attended the Season Finale in Los Angeles in 2007, watching David Cook beat David Archuleta in person.

An American Idol with Ellen doesn’t appeal to me. I think I’ll skip this season (at least after the auditions, which she won’t be a part of), I have better things to do with my time. I wonder if I’m the only one that feels this way. I guess we’ll see once she starts working on the show.
