A couple of months ago, I ran into one of the best food books that I have ever read: The Diet Solution Program by Isabella De Los Rios. I kinda stumbled upon the book after viewing a video from Sean Croxton of UndergroundWellness.com. That book series, along with the information that I’ve been getting from Underground Wellness, has made me rethink food and nutrition. I’d like to share my review of The Diet Solution Program with you.
When I bought the book, I bought into the standard American way of thinking about food. A calorie is a calorie, grains are good for you, soy is good, and the only difference between organic food and conventional food is that conventional food might have some pesticides, but it’s equally nutritious. I learned otherwise as I read The Diet Solution Program. Much of what we believe to be true about nutrition is wrong.
For example, I discovered that there is such a thing as different metabolic types. The Diet Solution Program teaches you to find out what your metabolic type is. It turns out, I’m a protein type: I feel better (and fuller) if I eat more protein with my meals. I thought that we were supposed to eat more grains.
I also learned about the difference between the quality of organic and conventionally grown foods. It turns out, there are nutrients in organic foods that are not present in conventional foods. For example, eggs from cage free chickens have more Omega 3 vitamins. Why isn’t this common knowledge? Some people tell you to eat it because it’s better for the environment, but I don’t have the kind of money to spend on organic foods just to protect the environment. I am on a very limited budget. My budget still is limited, but knowing what I know now, I am able to make small changes.
The main manual that comes with the Diet Solution Program is very easy to read. Even though I bought the program late at night, I started it, but couldn’t put it down before I went to bed. There was just so much to learn that I didn’t know. I was fascinated.
I tried the Diet Solution Program, and it works pretty well. By eating more protein (since I'm a protein type), I don't get hungry as quickly as if I eat more carb-laden meals. Drinking the recommended water helped me kick the soda habit that I have been trying to get rid of for years; although I still drink soda sometimes, I don’t keep it in the house any more. I went from drinking four or more cans of soda a day to not even having it in the house.
I have lost some weight by trying the principals in the program. I don’t follow the program perfectly, or I might have lost more weight by now, but I have lost seven pounds so far with the Diet Solution Program. I have also lost a couple of inches around my weight. More importantly, I’m not hungry, and I’m not really even trying to lose weight. I’m just living a healthier life and eating what I want, loosely based on the suggestions in this book. Now, I want to go out and exercise. I sleep so much better than I have in the past. I used to have insomnia. I'm pretty happy with the results.
I'd recommend this program to my friends. Since finding this program, I have been learning more about health and nutrition, and what she has to say makes a lot of sense.
